Frequently Asked Questions
-
In many cases, care can begin within a few days of your assessment. If you're being discharged from a hospital or rehab facility and need a smooth transition home, tell us — we'll do everything we can to have a caregiver in place before you leave.
-
3 hours is typically the minimum service time, but we are flexible if you let us know the details- we are always willing to accommodate.
-
Cost depends on the level of care and number of hours you need. We'll walk you through pricing during your complimentary assessment and provide a clear, written estimate before care begins - no surprise charges.
-
Generally, no. Medicare does not cover non-medical home care like personal care or companionship. It only covers skilled home health care (nursing, therapy) when ordered by a doctor and delivered through a Medicare-certified agency, and only for a limited time. This is one of the most common misunderstandings families run into, so we're glad to walk through the difference with you.
-
For some families, yes. MassHealth's Frail Elder Waiver can cover home care services for people 65 and older (or 60–64 with a qualifying disability) who meet nursing-facility-level care needs and fall within income and asset limits. It's administered through your regional Aging Services Access Point (ASAP). We're happy to point you toward your local ASAP if you'd like to explore eligibility. However, Snug Harbor Home Care is private pay service. We will gladly refer you to a participating agency.

It can be used toward home care costs. Eligibility depends on service history, medical need, and financial limits -we can point you to resources for applying.

We can provide the documentation and invoices your insurer needs for a claim — we recommend checking your policy's daily benefit amount and elimination period before care begins so there are no surprises.
-
No. You'll sign a standard service agreement that spells out the scope of care, fees, and scheduling, but it isn't a long-term lock-in — it includes clear terms for adjusting or ending service with notice.

How are your care partners screened and trained?
Our care partners are screened with full CORI background checks and each care partner is trained in accordance to applicable regulations with Skilled Nursing Facilities. ie. dementia certified and up to date with all necessary competencies.
Are care partners employees, or independent contractors?
Our care partners are employees of Snug Harbor Home Care and 3Harbors Careforce, not independent contractors. That means they're trained, supervised, and covered under our insurance - you're not responsible for payroll taxes or liability the way you would be if you hired someone privately.
Will I have the same caregiver every visit?
We aim to match you with a consistent, familiar caregiver — or a small, steady team — rather than rotating strangers through your home. If your caregiver is out sick or on vacation, we arrange qualified backup coverage so care never lapses.
What if my caregiver isn't the right fit?
Tell us. Fit matters as much as skill, and we'd rather make a change early than have you stay quiet about it. Reach out to your care coordinator and we'll work to find someone who's a better match.
-
What services does Snug Harbor Home Care provide?
Personal care (bathing, grooming, mobility, meal preparation), companion care (conversation, transportation, help staying engaged and independent), memory care for individuals living with Alzheimer's or dementia, and post-hospital recovery support after surgery or a hospital stay.
What if my care needs change over time?
We revisit your care plan as needs evolve — increasing hours, adding services, or transitioning toward memory care if that becomes appropriate. Call us any time your situation changes; we don't wait for a scheduled review.
Do you offer 24-hour or live-in care?
Yes
-
Do caregivers provide transportation to appointments?
Yes — caregivers can drive clients to medical appointments, errands, and social visits as part of a scheduled care plan using the client’s vehicle. For rides outside a scheduled caregiver visit, we also partner with Uber Health to coordinate transportation: our care team can book a ride to an appointment, pharmacy, or errand on your behalf, with no smartphone, app, or Uber account required on your end. Rides are arranged and tracked by our coordinators, and trip details are sent directly to you or your family by phone or text.
-
Is my health and personal information kept private?
Yes. Anything we learn about your health, finances, or family situation is kept confidential and shared only with people you've authorized — like a Health Care Proxy or a family member you've named. We handle your information with the same care we'd want for our own families.
What happens in a medical emergency?
Caregivers are trained to call 911 immediately for any medical emergency, then notify your emergency contact and Health Care Proxy. Every client's file includes emergency contacts, medications, and relevant medical history so caregivers have what they need in the moment.
Who do I contact if I have a concern or complaint?
Call or email us directly at (508) 444-2051 or welcome@snugharborhomecare.com. We take concerns seriously and follow up promptly — you're never required to go through your caregiver to raise an issue.
